Mesut Ozil produced a brilliant pass against Crystal Palace

Arsenal v Chelsea - Premier League

Alexis Sanchez may be ready to leave Arsenal but Mesut Ozil remains.

The German playmaker’s contract at the Emirates Stadium expires in the summer, just like Sanchez’s, but he seems prepared to see out the remainder of the season in north London.

Arsenal supporters have to be concerned about Ozil’s future. There is no concrete evidence that he will sign a contract extension and the threat of him leaving on a free transfer is very, very real.

But for now, they are more than happy to enjoy Ozil’s brilliance.

The 29-year-old returned to the starting line-up for today’s match at home to Crystal Palace following a knee injury and it didn’t take long for him to make an impact.

Ozil was at the centre of Alexandre Lacazette’s goal which made it 4-0 to the hosts in the 22nd minute, producing a sumptuous backheel to find the French striker.

And he proceeded to show just why Ozil is considered one of the most enjoyable footballers to watch in the world.

Journalist John Cross wrote about the World Cup winner’s performance: “Some of Ozil's flicks and tricks today... Honestly, if you can't appreciate Ozil, you can't appreciate good football.”

Indeed, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is reportedly close to a move to the Emirates Stadium, must be thoroughly excited at the thought of teaming up with a player as creative as Ozil.

Arsenal supporters were drooling on social media about one Ozil moment in particular.

It came in the 56th minute when, off balance, he managed to locate Alex Iwobi with a perfectly-weighted pass.

Iwobi was unable to finish the move off but the chance wouldn’t have been there for him if not for Ozil’s genius.

Ozil was taken off with 20 minutes remaining - Arsene Wenger clearly had one eye on Wednesday’s Carabao Cup match against Chelsea - as Arsenal secured their first win of 2018.

They were 4-0 up after 22 minutes, goals from Nacho Monreal, Alex Iwobi, Laurent Koscielny and Lacazette effectively ending the tie in the first half.

Luka Milivojevic pulled a goal back for the Eagles in the 78th minute.
