What Duisburg & Mark Flekken have done in reaction to famous 'water bottle goal' is fantastic

On Saturday, football fans were introduced to MSV Duisburg and their goalkeeper Mark Flekken.

In what will go down as one of the most bizarre incidents in the history of the sport, Flekken conceded a goal to Ingolstadt while having a sip of water from his bottle and sitting in the back of his goal.

Stefan Dutschke poked home from close-range, with Flekken seemingly relaxing and enjoying a little hydration session.

No one could quite understand how this 'Fifa glitch goal' happened, but fan footage released after revealed why.

Flekken thought Duisburg had scored from a free-kick and then turned his back because the stadium played the music it uses to celebrate a goal.

However, without him knowing, the goal was disallowed, with Ingolstadt taking full advantage and flying up the pitch at some serious pace. Before he knew it, the ball was rolling over his line.

Thankfully for the embarrassed goalkeeper, Duisburg won the game 2-1 to keep them in fourth place.

You can see both videos of the incident below.

A truly crazy incident.

And now, Flekken and Duisburg are preparing to do something incredibly thoughtful and generous in the aftermath of the incident.

As posted on the club's official website, Flekken's famous Sinalco bottle will be auctioned in order to raise money for a child's charity in Germany called Zebrakids.

"The bottle and I wrote a bit league history on the weekend. Our guys did the best in the story after the match, and now we're making the story even better. We auction my bottle in favor of the zebrakids!"

What a lovely, lovely idea.

Hopefully fans will take advantage by putting in some serious bids for a true piece of Duisburg memorabilia.

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund may have most of the trophies in Germany, but do they have a famous water bottle? They certainly don't.
