Rio Ferdinand sent a tweet to Leroy Sane after Germany crashed out of the World Cup

Germany were many people's favourites to win the World Cup for a second successive tournament.

The 2014 champions have a wealth of talent at their disposal.

Manuel Neuer, Mats Hummels, Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller are just a few names that can be considered up there with the best in the world.

But under Joachim Low's guidance, they failed to perform.

They desperately needed a win against South Korea in their last group game to progress to the last-16.

But they failed spectacularly; conceding two late goals to lose 2-0 and crash out of the tournament.

Germany were clearly lacking pace and youth in their side.

Low had the opportunity to bring one of the most talented players in world football in Leroy Sane to Russia, but he chose Julian Brandt instead.

It was a decision that baffled many at the time, and it seems even worse now given they exit the competition early.

Rio Ferdinand has now tweeted Leroy Sane, and everything he said is absolutely spot on.

He wrote: "@LeroySane19 where are you?!?!? 👀👀 #Germany fans must be sooooo mad. Their best young player told to enjoy the beach instead of #WorldCupRussia2018. Crazy!"

Spot on, Rio.

As Twitter user @Mr_C_Walsh put it, it's "about time someone with some influence on the game said it!"

It looked bad at the time, but it looks even more horrific now.

Sane was one of the best players in the Premier League last season.

He tallied 10 goals and 15 assists in England's top tier on route to winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

He would have certainly added a lot more to Germany's attack, which repeatedly faltered throughout the tournament.

After their failure this summer, there's no doubt Low is kicking himself for leaving him out...

Alan Shearer commented on the BBC that Germany deserved to be heading home early from the tournament.

"I am not surprised after what I’ve seen from their last two games. They’ve been slow, leggy, no desire," he said.

"Today they didn’t have a plan a let alone a plan b. They deserve to go out. Germany were all over the place.

"They deserve it, they’ve been miles away. Even in their very first game against Mexico who Sweden have convincingly beaten.

"They were fortunate to get away with it in the second game."
