Arsenal fans give their verdict on rumours of €40m move for Steven N'Zonzi

Arsenal fans ought to be positive about what the 2018/19 season holds under Unai Emery.

A new manager brings a new beginning and that's exactly what the Gunners have needed for the best part of five years.

Arsene Wenger took his beloved club as far as he possibly could; now it's time for a younger, more dynamic manager to take charge and steer Arsenal in a new direction.

And you can bet Emery has already made his mark in north London. Since replacing Wenger in May, the Spaniard has completely overhauled his coaching team.

He's also released two Arsenal fan favourites, Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla, in unprecedented and potentially risky moves.

Meanwhile, no less than five new players have arrived at the Emirates Stadium: Stephan Lichtsteiner, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Bernd Leno, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.

Further signings are potentially on the horizon, too, with Emery saying recently that he will open his chequebook once more if a "big opportunity" presents itself.

EMERY EYEING ONE MORE

"We signed the players who we need," said the ex-Paris Saint-Germain manager. "Only if one player is a big opportunity for us to sign we can do it.

"Normally we are thinking about the young player, the possibility to stay with us or go on loan to another team.

"In this moment I think the squad is complete, only the possibility for one player or two players to leave. To sign [a player] in the next month? Only if he is a big opportunity."

Introducing, Steven N'Zonzi. According to France Football and Sky Sports, Arsenal are in negotiations to sign the Frenchman from Sevilla. He's valued at €40m.

Arsenal are currently unprepared to pay that sum so they're trying to lower Sevilla's demands before making a formal bid.

N'Zonzi is a long-term target for the Gunners and it's widely believed he's the type of player they need in midfield - so what do the fans think?

Well, it would appear they're not keen. In response to the rumours, Arsenal fans have been tweeting that they don't need N'Zonzi following the signing of Lucas Torreira.

Instead, they want Emery to invest the money in a new centre-back or a much-needed winger - someone like Bayern Munich's Kingsley Coman, for example.

Here's a small collection of tweets from Arsenal fans.

They make a very good point. Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Torreira are all options for Arsenal in midfield, so do they really need a fifth? Perhaps not.

But when a player of N'Zonzi's quality becomes available it's hard to say no, so there's a good chance Emery will still look to pounce.
