Footage emerges of Sadio Mane crying on the pitch after Equatorial Guinea 0-1 Senegal

Liverpool's Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane has endured a mixed season so far with Liverpool.

Like a lot of the Reds' attacking players, the winger has struggled for consistency despite the club's excellent start to the season.

Mane has scored six times in the Premier League so far, but some of his performances have been way below the standard he set last season.

While Jurgen Klopp won't be too concerned just yet, Liverpool will need him to rediscover his best form if they are to dethrone Manchester City.

But it seems Mane has also been struggling on international duty with Senegal.

He started the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, which Senegal won 1-0 courtesy of an own-goal.

However, footage emerged shortly after the final whistle of Mane in tears.

The Liverpool man was consoled by teammates and even pulled his jersey over his head.

You can watch the footage below.

It's difficult to watch a player so visibly distraught.

When the footage surfaced on social media, Liverpool fans were concerned that Mane had picked up a serious injury.

That doesn't appear to be the case and fans were quick to point out what the reason is likely to be.

Mane was targeted by Senegal fans after missing a golden chance in the second-half, with supporters even booing him.

And it seems the tears were Mane's way of reacting to the harsh treatment from his own supporters.

Sometimes, players just have to let out their emotions.

Mane is the poster boy of Senegalese football, which is quite the accolade given the presence of Napoli's commanding centre-half Kalidou Koulibaly.

Both Mane and Koulibaly are two of the five nominees for the BBC African Footballer of the Year Award.

Morocco's Mehdi Benatia, Egypt's Mohamed Salah and Ghana's Thomas Parety are the three other nominees, with the award to be presented in Dakar, Senegal's capital.
