Neymar is about to complete his return to Barcelona from Paris Saint-Germain

After months of intense speculation, it appears that Neymar has sealed a return to Barcelona.

The Brazilian forward, who initially left Barça for Paris Saint-Germain in a record-breaking deal worth £200 million in the summer of 2017, was desperate to return to Camp Nou after two underwhelming seasons in France.

PSG were initially adamant that Neymar would not be leaving the Parc des Princes but were left with little choice but to open talks with Barça after the player made it clear that he wanted to leave.

Neymar hasn’t featured for PSG since the end of last season.

His last appearance came in a 2-1 win over Angers SCO as the Parisians sealed their second successive Ligue 1 table.

And that will be his final appearance for PSG, according to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio.

He tweeted the news on Thursday afternoon before confirming the story on his website.

“The Brazilian striker leaves PSG after just two seasons to return to Blaugrana,” he wrote.

“Agreement reached both between clubs and between Barcelona and the player.

“In the next few hours the signatures, to formalize the return of Neymar to the Camp Nou.

“After being the most expensive shot in history, Neymar returns to where he made his European debut.”

It’s been reported that Lionel Messi was pivotal in convincing Barça to re-sign Neymar.

The Argentina, who is still close friends with his fellow South American, reportedly believes that Neymar’s arrival will significantly boost Barça’s chances of winning this season’s Champions League.

The Catalan club have not won Europe’s premier club competition since 2015, when Neymar scored one of Barça’s goals to help seal a 3-1 win over Juventus.

Neymar was linked with a move to Real Madrid earlier this summer, as well as Juve, but he only had eyes for Barcelona.

And it seems that Ernesto Valverde’s side, who have already spent big money this summer on the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong, have got their man.

It’s currently unclear whether Ivan Rakitic and Ousmane Dembele will be part of the deal - but it seems likely that at least one of them will be heading to Paris.
