Kevin De Bruyne 'likes' comment on Instagram congratulating Liverpool on winning Premier League

Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League

Liverpool have an early advantage in the Premier League title race.

The Reds’ continued their perfect start to the 2019/20 campaign with an impressive 3-1 win against Newcastle United on Saturday.

And their day was made even better when Manchester City slipped up in the evening kick-off against Norwich City.

Pep Guardiola’s side fell to a shock 3-2 defeat at Carrow Road that leaves Liverpool with a five-point advantage.

There’s still a long way to go, of course, but Liverpool jumping out to an early lead in what looks like being a two-horse race is big.

Man City boss Guardiola joked in his post-match press conference about conceding the title to the Anfield club.

“We are in September, OK? Congratulations Liverpool, you are the champions,” the 48-year-old said.

Norwich City v Manchester City - Premier League

The Man City boss was being sarcastic. But Kevin De Bruyne’s actions on social media may need explaining.

The Belgian midfielder has ‘liked’ a comment on Instagram that congratulates Liverpool on winning the Premier League.

The comment, posted by user joeparys_ on De Bruyne’s page, reads: “Yaah , But Congratulations to Liverfool Finally have won Epl 😂👏”.

A mistake?

Who knows. It would be out of character for De Bruyne to do that.

The 28-year-old has been magnificent for Man City this season but he was dropped to the bench for the game against Norwich.

Ilkay Gundogan started in his place, a decision Guardiola made in order to keep De Bruyne fresh ahead of a busy run of matches.

West Ham United v Manchester City - Premier League

“Kevin he was incredible pre-season, he was incredible in pre-season, but he played two games in the national team and my experience says that, for example Pjanic Juventus is injured, Modric Madrid is injured, and what happened last season with Kevin I'd prefer 20, 25 minutes in the second half at an incredible level,” Guardiola explained before kick-off, per the Manchester Evening News.

The midfielder was brought on in the 57th minute - when Man City were 3-1 down, and he was unable to turn the game around.

It was a risky call and it backfired for Man City.
