Watford's Dimitri Foulquier had a Premier League debut to forget

Queens Park Rangers v Watford - Pre-Season Friendly

Manchester City thrashed Watford 8-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

After their shock loss to Norwich last week, Pep Guardiola’s side bounced back in style.

It was 5-0 at half-time with five different goalscorers before Bernardo Silva completed his hat-trick with two strikes after the interval. Kevin de Bruyne added an eighth late on.

But let’s spare a thought for Quique Sanchez Flores and his Watford side.

After last week’s fightback to earn a point against Arsenal and City’s defensive injury crisis, there may have been a few fans out there backing the Hornets to pull off a surprise.

But within 17 minutes, they found themselves 5-0 down.

Shortly afterwards, Sanchez Flores decided to bring off Dimitri Foulquier.

Foulquier was making his Premier League debut two years after joining Watford.

He was signed in August 2017 but was immediately loaned out to French side RC Strasbourg.

Last season, the one-capped Guadeloupe international was shipped out to Getafe.

After a long wait, he was finally handed his Premier League debut against City.

But it lasted 33 minutes before he was dragged off for Roberto Pereyra with his side already 5-0 down, having had just nine touches.

The worst debut in Premier League history?

It could well be.

To be fair, Foulquier was probably glad Sanchez Flores spared him.

It wasn’t necessarily the right-back’s fault that Watford were 5-0 down but it’s certainly not a debut to remember.
