Raheem Sterling teased by Riyad Mahrez & Benjamin Mendy for not scoring four vs Atalanta

An upset was potentially on the cards in the Champions League on Tuesday night when Atalanta took a shock 1-0 lead against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

But Pep Guardiola's side were able to make a comeback thanks to the brilliant Raheem Sterling.

The Englishman had a huge part in Sergio Aguero's two first half goals.

His pin-point cross was dispatched by the Argentinian and shortly after Sterling won a penalty, which was scored by his teammate.

Sterling then decided to get in on the act himself, and he did in some style.

The former Liverpool player struck a hat-trick within 12 second half minutes.

It could have been even better for him, though.

He found himself in acres of space as he ran through on goal in the 76th minute.

Sterling had all the time in the world and tried to place the ball in the corner, but he got it wrong and his shot trickled wide.

It was a poor miss, but Sterling could be forgiven having already won the game almost single-handedly.

However, his fellow teammates weren't going to let him forget about that miss after the game.

Cameras picked up Riyad Mahrez and Benjamin Mendy teasing him for that missed sitter, despite his man-of-the-match performance.

"You should have scored four!" Mendy and Mahrez can be heard saying.

Sterling explained his miss after the game, saying he was trying to set up his teammate to score.

"I should have had four," he said, per the Metro. "Riyad set me up for the last one and as soon as I went through on goal I was looking for him to see if he was anywhere close, I wanted to put one on a plate for him.

"But going through there, I’ve just got to finish that, but otherwise we were clinical."

Guardiola also said he should have had added to his goal tally.

"He was brilliant, but he should have scored one more," Guardiola said. "But not just with the ball, without the ball, he helped us a lot."
