Manchester United produce incredible first half performance away at Manchester City

Manchester City v Manchester United - Premier League

Manchester United were the firm underdogs heading into Saturday’s Premier League clash against local rivals Manchester City.

Eleven points separated the two clubs before this fixture.

But United, who recorded a surprise 2-1 win over Tottenham earlier this week, came flying out of the traps at the Etihad Stadium and took a remarkable 2-0 lead by the 30th minute.

It was a sensational start from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.

And although the game isn’t over at the time of writing, this is the type of performance that will convince Ed Woodward that United have the right man in charge.

The Red Devils could have already scored at least two goals before Marcus Rashford broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute.

The in-form England international scored his 13th goal of the season from the penalty spot after being fouled inside the box by Bernardo Silva.

Six minutes later and, much to Pep Guardiola’s horror, United doubled their advantage courtesy of Anthony Martial.

The French forward’s snapshot beat Ederson at his near post to double United’s lead.

Moments earlier, the red-hot Rashford smashed the bar with a brilliant strike from the edge of the box.

United fans were obviously loving it - as was the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson, who was at the game.

The first half was so bizarre that Fred even nutmegged Rodri.

Is this the best 45 minutes United have produced since Fergie’s retirement?
