Man Utd's Team of the Decade based purely on stats has been revealed

Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney both feature in Man Utd's Team of the Decade

It's been a strange decade for Manchester United Football Club

Sir Alex Ferguson bid farewell to his beloved Red Devils in 2013 after delivering yet another Premier League title, but things turned rather sour from there.

David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have all took the reigns since the Scotsman's exit and they have all struggled to get anywhere near the great man's achievements.

United haven't won the title since 2012/13, but Mourinho did guide them to second place in 2017/18.

It's been a memorable 10 years to say the least and United's highest rated team from a decade of highs - and extreme lows - is rather interesting.

WhoScored's statistical parameters have provided the team below, with some surprise names making the cut - and some big stars missing out.

To be included, players need to have amassed over 70 appearances in the Premier League and Champions League.

Man Utd's Team of the Decade

GK: David de Gea - 6.69

Who else was it going to be, eh? De Gea has kept 117 clean sheets in his 333 games for the club and is still one of the best goalkeepers in world football.

RB: Rafael - 7.23

A very dependable right-back in his day, but United's lack of quality in the position throughout the decade has been evident, with Antonio Valencia the only real competition. Maybe Aaron Wan-Bissaka can fix that...

CB: Nemanja Vidic - 7.42

United's Player of the Decade. The Serbian made 118 appearances and remarkably, the Red Devils only conceded 0.87 goals-per-game with him on the pitch. Also, he was only dribbled past 22 times!

CB: Jonny Evans - 7.18

A player severely underrated by United fans. Was key during Ferguson's final years, making 123 appearances this decade and scoring six goals.

LB: Patrice Evra - 7.28

One of United's greatest ever left-backs. Made 189 appearances and scored seven goals along the way.

RM: Nani - 7.35

The Portuguese was WhoScored's highest rated player for the 2010/11 season, with Nani scoring 25 goals in his 127 appearances since the turn of the decade.

CM: Michael Carrick - 6.99

Mr Dependable. Carrick was the engine room in some of United's greatest sides, making 13,343 passes in his 238 appearances - comfortably the most of any Red Devils player this decade.

CM: Paul Pogba - 7.38

A divisive figure, but a quality one nonetheless. In his 114 appearances, Pogba averages 0.49 goals or assists per game, an impressive return.

LM: Anthony Martial - 6.96

He still has a lot of room for improvement, but the quality is evidently there. Martial has played a direct hand in 64 goals in 145 appearances since his move from AS Monaco, not bad.

ST: Wayne Rooney - 7.37

A true United legend. It was yet another stellar decade for Rooney has he produced 182 goals and assists in just 253 appearances for the Red Devils.

ST: Robin van Persie - 7.35

The man who delivered Fergie's last Premier league title. In just 98 appearances for United, Van Persie scored 55 goals, with 26 of those coming in the 2012/13 league season alone!

So Ryan Giggs (6.94), Rio Ferdinand (6.97) and Paul Scholes (6.91) all miss out!

Ferdinand is probably the most surprising omission, given he was still somewhat near his peak during the earlier years of the decade.

The fact Evans is the one to take his place makes it even more surprising, given the best days of his career in the Premier League are coming right now at Leicester City.

No Marcus Rashford, either...
