Diego Maradona claims he was abducted by UFO and lost virginity aged 13

Diego Maradona is one of the most colourful characters in football history.

He was an unbelievable player - undoubtedly one of the greatest the sport has ever seen - but he’s created just as many headlines off the pitch as he did on it.

The Argentine hero, who inspired his country to World Cup glory in 1986, has been involved in countless controversies throughout his life.

His past issues have all been well documented, so we won’t go into them in detail here - but thankfully he seems to have overcome many of his demons.

The 59-year-old is currently managing Gimnasia de La Plata. He quit in November, after just two months in the job, before returning two days later after, in his own words, ‘finally achieving political unity in the club’.

Whenever Maradona speaks, he inevitably creates more headlines. He’s just that type of character.

He’s as honest as they come. He speaks from the heart and never holds back, which is part of the reason people love him so much.

What you see is what you get.

But his latest interview with Argentine sports channel TyC Sports - per talkSPORT - is potentially his most bizarre one yet.

In the interview, the football legend claims he was once abducted by a UFO. Yes, you did read that right. A UFO. Although he does admit this experience came after a “few too many drinks”.

“Why make things up?” he said. “Once, after a few too many drinks, I was missing from home for three days.

“I got home and said that UFOs had taken me. I said ‘They took me, I can’t tell you about it’.”

Say no more, Diego. Say no more.

The former Napoli star was also asked when he lost his virginity - and Maradona had a typically amusing anecdote up his sleeve.

“At 13 years old, in a basement with an older lady,” he added.

“I was on top and she was reading a newspaper.”

Hmm, bit weird...

Maradona also revealed that he played ‘several’ matches during his career without having slept.

And when asked which three footballers he would invite on to his yacht, he named Carlos Tevez, Lionel Messi and Gabriel Heinze.

Never change, Diego.
