Inter Milan have officially confirmed the signing of Ashley Young from Manchester United.

The Englishman has joined the Italian giants in a £1.3 million deal.

Despite only having six months remaining on his Man United contract, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was initially reluctant to let the veteran go.

But Young was adamant he wanted to end his eight-and-a-half year stay at the club and he finally got his way.

The Norwegian spoke of Young's departure earlier on Friday.

“Well, to be fair, I think it was for Ashley, you know,” Solskjaer told ManUtd.com

“He is 35 in the summer and, if he gets a two-year contract somewhere, I think it's up to him to take that. We weren't ready to offer that.

“He's been a good servant for the club. He's been captain and he's won trophies, leagues, cups, but we've got players coming through.

“So it was time now, then. When Ashley's head and mindset was on 'yeah, I want to try this', why not do it now?“

Young leaves United having scored 19 goals in 261 appearances.

He helped the Red Devils to five major titles, including the Premier League trophy in 2013.

Young becomes the third United player to leave United for Inter in the past six months.

Romelu Lukaku joined for a club record €80 million fee, while Alexis Sanchez joined on loan until the end of the season.

Harry Maguire has been named United captain in the wake of Young's departure.

In a statement, United announced: "Manchester United can confirm that Ashley Young has completed his transfer to Inter Milan.

"The 34-year-old captain, who joined the Reds in the summer of 2011, made 261 appearances for the Reds, scoring 19 goals.

"Everyone at the club would like to thank Ashley for his many seasons of service and to wish him well for the future."

Inter, meanwhile, have confirmed Young will wear the No. 15 shirt at the San Siro...
