Tottenham denied winning goal vs Watford by a matter of millimetres

Tottenham are in dire need of a striker.

As the north Londoners drew 0-0 at Watford on Saturday lunchtime, the commentators adjudged that Jose Mourinho will have been reasonably happy with the result.

That may well be the case, but it remains an indictment of how far his side have fallen this season.

The Hornets had one of the best chances to win the game when Jan Vertonghen handled inside the box as he slid along the deck, Michael Oliver immediately pointing to the spot.

Troy Deeney had been a constant physical threat but he was ultimately thwarted as his penalty was saved by Paulo Gazzaniga.

However, with 92 minutes on the clock, Erik Lamela came within millimetres of handing Spurs a rare away win as he toe-poked the ball towards Ben Foster's goal after getting on the end of Serge Aurier's cross.

Remarkably, Ignacio Pussetto, who had come on to make his Watford debut just two minutes earlier hacked the ball off the line with his first touch for his new club.

Now just imagine if that's the point that keeps Watford up...

It's hopeless luck for Spurs, who haven't scored a Premier League goal for over four hours now since the 2-2 draw with Norwich in December.

Harry Kane's injury really looks to be decimating what was already a pretty woeful season.

Mourinho will just be hoping Daniel Levy is watching on with his cheque book at the ready - but how unlucky can you get?

Alexa, define 'Tottenham Hotspur'.
