NBA Roundup: Toronto Raptors breaks franchise record with 22 made threes

Toronto Raptors v Charlotte Hornets

The Toronto Raptors were back to a full roster last night as Marc Gasol, Pascal Siakam and Norman Powell handed the Washington Wizards an embarrassing 111-140 defeat.

Returning from an injury layoff, Gasol showed fans at the Scotiabank Arena what they had been missing as he splashed six threes and hit a season-high 20pts. The Toronto big man worked as a machine as he shot 6-for-7 from beyond the arc and got the spring back in his step after nearly one month of recovery.

Gasol did not act single-handedly in the Raptors dictatorship last night as Norman Powell continued to perform with a game-high 28pts, adding five rebounds and two assists. The 26-year-old is experiencing one of the best seasons of his career, racking up 459pts already this season - for comparison, he finished with 516 last season - and sitting on a 51.2 field goal percentage, almost a 10% increase from his rookie season.

The reigning champs have built a sturdy team of both veteran players and young talent following the departure of Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green this past summer. Terence Davis II tallied 23pts, matching a career-best, OG Anunoby put up 18 and Serge Ibaka added 15 for Toronto.

Kyle Lowry managed to fire off a wild three-pointer when he felt contact on his left hand. Flailing his arms in a bid to draw a shooting foul, the right-handed player ended up hurling the off-balance 31-foot shot towards the basket, no call was made but the ball miraculously splashed anyway.

Washington has an unsteady relationship with Toronto, who has won 17 of its last 20 regular season fixtures with them. Troy Brown Jr led the Wizard's offence with 22 points yesterday as Isaac Bonga recorded a game-high 10 rebounds.

However, Washington didn't have control with a season-worst 28 turnovers leading to 30pts for the Raptors and have are now on a three-game losing streak.

Toronto improves to 27-14 as the Wizards slip to 13-28 in the records.
