Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to sell Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan without replacing the Belgian striker looks worse by the week.
The Manchester United manager was desperately scrambling around for a centre-forward on deadline day and eventually settled for Odion Ighalo, the 30-year-old former Watford striker who has spent the past few years boosting his bank balance in China.
Ighalo will provide the inconsistent Anthony Martial and 18-year-old Mason Greenwood with competition over the coming weeks as Marcus Rashford recovers from a back injury.
But Lukaku once again showed on Sunday night that, despite what many people said during his second season at Old Trafford, he’s a top-class forward.
The 26-year-old, who scored 42 goals in 96 games for United, played a key role in Inter’s dramatic 4-2 win over rivals AC Milan at the San Siro.

- 17 players Fergie was completely wrong about
Inter came from 2-0 down to win 4-2, with Lukaku netting the Nerazzurri’s final goal of the game in stoppage time…
His celebration was pretty epic…
That’s now 21 goals and four assists in 30 games for his current employers.
Last week he became the fastest player in Inter’s history to score 20 goals for the Italian giants.
Aside from the goal, his all-round game against Milan was excellent.
Here’s a clip from the first half when he span his marker before running half the length of the pitch and setting up a chance for Matias Vecino…
Top work from the powerful Belgium international, who has rediscovered his form and confidence since leaving the Red Devils.
And despite not registering an assist over the course of the 90 minutes, Lukaku still set up several opportunities for his teammates.
He's clearly loving life right now...
All of this makes for hard reading for Man Utd fans, many of whom were happy to see the back of Lukaku last summer.
That was until the summer transfer window closed with no replacement, anyway.
It was reported last week that United now realise they made a mistake not replacing Lukaku and plan to rectify that at the end of the season.
The Premier League giants have enquired about Lukaku’s current Inter teammate Lautaro Martinez, but they are not prepared to pay the £94 million buyout clause in the Argentine’s contract.News Now - Sport News
