Data analysts have predicted the most likely teams to qualify for the Champions League

The race for Champions League football is on

The race to qualify for the Champions League is well and truly on. 

Clubs are desperate to play in Europe's elite competition every season and that means finishing as high as possible in the table. 

In the big leagues, it's usually the top three or four teams that make it - depending on each associations coefficient - so predicting Champions League qualification is always very tough.

But this season its especially interesting in terms of the Premier League thanks to Manchester City. 

As it stands, Pep Guardiola's side are banned from the competition for two years after breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

So, who will take their place? Well, the website FiveThirtyEight have been crunching the numbers and worked out each team's current probability of Champions League qualification. 

Let's start with the Premier League, before taking a look at teams from Europe's other top five leagues:

Liverpool | 100% chance (already qualified) 

Liverpool have already qualified for the UCL

Manchester City | 0% chance (currently banned)

Leicester City | 98% chance

Chelsea | 81% chance 

Chelsea have a good chance of qualifying

Tottenham | 42% chance

Manchester United | 23% chance 

Wolves | 22% chance

Sheffield United | 17% chance  

Sheffield United could be shock contenders

Everton | 11% chance 

Arsenal | 2% chance

Burnley | 1% chance

Every other Premier League team has less than 1% chance of qualification. 

La Liga teams: 

Real Madrid | More than 99% chance 

Real Madrid are on course to qualify

Barcelona | More than 99% chance

Getafe | 58% chance

Atletico Madrid | 54% chance

Sevilla | 44% chance 

Real Sociedad | 20% chance

Villarreal | 13% chance

Valencia | 8% chance 

Valencia have an outside chance

Athletic Bilbao | 1% chance

Every other La Liga team has less than 1% chance of qualification.

Serie A teams:

Inter Milan | 98% chance

As you can see, the race to reach the Champions League really is hotting up in all of Europe's top five leagues. 

We have to give a special mention to Sheffield United.

The newly-promoted Premier League side statistically have a better chance of making the competition than the likes of Napoli, Roma and Valencia.
