There is an art to time-wasting.

It's common-place that football teams try and run down the clock when they are defending a narrow lead.

It happens at all levels of football around the world.

And there's nothing more annoying for players on the wrong-end when a team is successful when trying to time-waste.

Bloem Celtic found out the hard way in a match against Mamelodi Sundowns in midweek.

Mamelodi Sundowns took the lead in the 16th minute through Sibusiso Vilakazi, only for Ndumiso Mabena to level for the visitors.

The home side regained the lead in the 55th minute when Hlompho Kekana netted 10 minutes after half-time.

Mamelodi Sundowns needed all three points to close the gap to Kaizer Chiefs at the top of the PSL.

So, in the final 10 minutes, they decided to produce some of the greatest time wasting ever seen.

The home side were given a corner kick in the 83rd minute.

But it was the complete opposite to Trent Alexander-Arnold's famous quickly taken corner against Barcelona last year.

One by one, Mamelodi Sundowns players went over to take the corner, only to be booked for time-wasting.

This happened three times, with Gaston Sirino, Vilakazi and Kekana all being given a booking.

Mamelodi Sundowns then substituted Kekana off after he had been shown a yellow card, wasting yet more time.

This led to anger from the visitors, who confronted the referee over the time-wasting.

Their manager simply laughed at the situation.

The time-wasting lasted for over two minutes and it has gone viral on Twitter. Watch it below:

That is just wonderful sh*thousery. It is perhaps the greatest time-wasting ever seen.

The players clearly didn't care about taking yellow cards and they would have taken pleasure in seeing how wound up their opponents got.

You can sympathise with the Bloem Celtic players for getting wound up, though. Just imagine how annoyed you would get if this happened to you.

And it worked to the home side's advantage as well as they held on to a narrow 2-1 victory.

That vital three points lifts them to second in the PSL with with 41 points from their opening 20 games.

The reigning champions are now four points behind Kaizer Chiefs in first.
