The 10 Barcelona and Real Madrid stars fighting for their futures in El Clasico

Some Real Madrid and Barca stars could feature in their last Clasico

Real Madrid and Barcelona clash in what could be one of the most important El Clasico's of recent memory on Sunday night.

The fixture will go a long way to deciding the La Liga title race.

Should Los Blancos win at the Bernabeu, they will leapfrog Barca and go top of the table.

A win for Quique Setien's side though will see them move four points clear of their rivals and take a big step towards another title.

This El Clasico could also be the end of an era. According to the Daily Mail, up to 10 players are fighting for their futures with Spain's top two clubs.

Big changes are expected to both squads come the summer, so this really could be the last chance some stars have to play in the world's biggest fixture.

Check out the 10 players that the Daily Mail believe are fighting for their futures on Sunday.

Dani Carvajal

There's a sense at Madrid that Carvajal keeps his place because no one else can play at right-back.

But that could all change if Achraf Hakimi moves back to the Bernabeu after a successful loan spell at Borussia Dortmund. The 21-year-old is tipped to become Real's regular right-back.

Carvajal is in danger of losing his place

Luka Modric

Modric may be a Ballon d'Or winner, but he turns 35 next season.

Zinedine Zidane is expected to revolutionise his midfield this summer and has been linked with Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek and bringing back on-loan Martin Odegaard.

If any of those three join, Modric will surely lose his place considering younger stars Federico Valverde and Casemiro already first-team regulars.

Modric could be shown the door

Toni Kroos

Like Modric, Kroos is getting on a bit and his place could well be under threat if Zidane does make big midfield signings.

Gareth Bale

The Bale soap-opera is never-ending. Will he leave next summer? We don't know for sure, but given he's played just 14 times in La Liga this season, it's very possible.

It seems he doesn't really care about making a go of it at the Bernabeu and we know Zidane isn't a massive fan, so this could well be Bale's last Clasico.

Bale could finally be on his way out

Karim Benzema

Benzema was in impressive form at the start of this season but has netted just once in 2020. Now 32, it could be time for someone else to step up and lead the line next season.

Luka Jovic, we're looking at you.

Samuel Umtiti

On to Barcelona and Umtiti's place in the team could be under threat. His previous injury problems mean he's not a regular starter, despite showing clear quality.

Should he feature in El Clasico, he'll really have a point to prove.

Umtiti could be shifted by Barca

Arthur Melo

Another of Barca's frustratingly inconsistent players is Melo. It seems Setien isn't convinced by the midfielder, who hasn't played a full 90 minutes since November.

Putting in a top performance against Madrid, if he gets the chance, will go a long way to helping his case though.

Ivan Rakitic

Despite winning countless trophies with Barca, some fans still want to see Rakitic sold. He is now 32 and could be displaced come summer.

The Croatian's contract expires in 2021 and with the club reluctant to extend it, they could cash in now or risk losing him for free in 16 months.

Rakitic could be out

Junior Firpo

Firpo's mistake gifted Napoli an important goal in the Champions League on Tuesday night and some supporters claim he's just not good enough to play for Barca.

The 23-year-old is currently playing due to Jordi Alba's injury and needs a big performance against Real Madrid to prove he belongs at Camp Nou.

Nelson Semedo

Like Madrid, Barca have failed to find a world-class right-back in recent years. It was always going to be a tough ask to replace Dani Alves and Semedo has struggled.

If he doesn't impress against Vinicius Jr on Sunday, the exit door could open. Interest from Atletico Madrid and Valencia was turned down last year, but that may not be the case this summer.

Semedo could be shown the exit door

There we have it, the 10 Real Madrid and Barcelona players who will be fighting for their futures during El Clasico.

It seems harsh to suggest the likes of Modric, Kroos and Rakitic could be out given all they've achieved in Spain, but that's football.

Modric, Kroos and Rakitic could all be in trouble

The two clubs need to improve to stay competitive and if they do that, it doesn't matter who they upset.
