UEFA have officially removed the 3pm blackout over English & Scottish football

Premier League games at 3pm will finally be available to watch on TV

UEFA have officially removed the 3pm television blackout over English and Scottish football.

European football's governing body have lifted the ban for the remainder of the 2019/20 season, making it clearer than ever that football will return behind-closed-doors when safe to do so after the Covid-19 outbreak.

UEFA wrote in a statement: “Taking into account the current exceptional circumstances, UEFA has lifted the ‘blocked hours’ protection granted to the UEFA Member Associations for England and Scotland for the remainder of the 2019/20 football season, following requests from the relevant National Associations as a result of measures taken in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The news comes after it was confirmed by the English footballing authorities on Friday night that competitive action would not be resuming in May.

The Premier League wrote in a statement: "It was acknowledged that the Premier League will not resume at the beginning of May – and that the 2019/20 season will only return when it is safe and appropriate to do so.

"The restart date is under constant review with all stakeholders, as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic develops and we work together through this very challenging time.

"The Premier League is working closely with the whole of professional football in this country, as well as with the Government, public agencies and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the game achieves a collaborative solution.

"With this, there is a combined objective for all remaining domestic league and cup matches to be played, enabling us to maintain the integrity of each competition.

"However, any return to play will only be with the full support of the Government and when medical guidance allows.

"The sporting and financial implications for Premier League clubs as well as for The FA, EFL and National League were considered at today’s meeting."

It seems abundantly clear that the Premier League season will be finished when it is medically safe to do so.

With the coronavirus pandemic unlikely to be completely resolved for some months, the only logical solution is to play games behind-closed-doors and allow people to watch from the safety of their own homes.

It's not ideal, but it's far better than the costing Liverpool a deserved Premier League title and throwing English football into even more chaos.
