Noel Whelan has backed Celtic to complete a move for Claudio Bravo, describing him as 'immense'.
Reports in Chile have suggested that the Scottish champions could be eyeing the Manchester City stopper as a potential option if they fail to land number one target Fraser Forster from Southampton.
Other options tipped by the publication are Watford's Ben Foster and Burnley's Joe Hart.
But given the vast experience that the Chilean stopper has picked up during his time with the likes of Barcelona and Man City, Whelan says that he would be a huge coup for Neil Lennon's side.
Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said: “They are looking at experienced goalkeepers.
“Neil Lennon is looking for somebody that has got a wealth of experience. They want somebody that knows the game and knows how to command the back four.
“You have got to have a goalkeeper you can trust. It gives confidence to the back four.
"They need to know they have got somebody secure in between the sticks who is talking all the time – that comes with experience.
“You do not look any further than Claudio Bravo. He has immense experience.”
GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...
Signing a goalkeeper is clearly a priority for Celtic this summer with Fraser Forster set to head back to Southampton.
While snapping him up on a permanent deal would surely be the risk-free option, a move for a player like Claudio Bravo could be massive.
Okay, he hasn't played a huge amount during his time with Manchester City but there's no doubting his pedigree in the game.
He's a proven winner - something that he's shown at the Etihad Stadium and previous to that during his time in Barcelona.
Celtic need proven winners if they're to stave off the advancing threat of Rangers, and a player like the Chilean could be just the tonic.
