Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal: Villa move out of Premier League relegation places with vital win

Arsenal fans knew not to expect an easy three points against Aston Villa on Tuesday.

They have just seen their team defeat Liverpool and Manchester City, the two strongest teams in England, but being an Arsenal supporter today brings with it a lingering sense of doubt.

Most teams would feel comfortable about a trip to relegation-threatened Aston Villa. Not Arsenal.

And so a 1-0 defeat wasn't all that surprising.

The Gunners suffered their 10th loss in the league campaign with a 1-0 loss to Dean Smith's side.

Trezeguet scored the only goal as Arsenal were brought back down to earth following their recent success.

And while it was a disappointing evening for Mikel Arteta's men, it was a huge step towards safety for Villa.

They jumped out of the relegation places on goal difference and know that Premier League survival is now in their hands.

As for Arsenal, who knows what to make of this side.

They're FA Cup finalists but have disappointed in a number of matches this season.

Arteta clearly has a lot of work to do to get this team at the level required to compete.

It certainly doesn't help when his captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, is laughing with opposing players, causing him to lose focus.
