Liverpool are Premier League champions.
This has long been known, such has been their dominance of the top-flight, but they were actually presented with the trophy on Wednesday.
That came after a thrilling, topsy-turvy 5-3 win over Chelsea at Anfield, and saw the likes of Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah finally get their hands on the trophy.
It means they go into this weekend’s final day of the Premier League season with little to play for, however.
They will play Newcastle United at St James’ Park, looking to take their tally to 99 points for the campaign.
The summer transfer window, though, is a key battlefield for the Reds as they look to strengthen Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
They will be out to retain that trophy next term but it appears that they are accelerating plans to bring in reinforcements.
Sport Witness carries a report from German newspaper Abendzeitung, issuing an update on the possibility of Thiago Alcantara moving to Anfield.
The midfielder has made 24 appearances for Bayern Munich thus far this season, scoring three goals, but it appears that he is on his way out of the Allianz Arena.
Per the report, the 29-year-old “sees his future” at Liverpool, and manager Klopp is equally as keen on a deal; he believes that he could be the missing piece of his Reds puzzle.
Bayern are demanding €35 million (£31.8m) for the Spain international’s signature, despite his contract expiring at the end of next season, but Liverpool want to pay €25m (£22.7m).
The report states that a compromise could be reached, and Thiago has already said goodbye to his team-mates ahead of a possible switch.
GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…
This would be incredible.
Thiago is a genuinely world-class player, the kind of star who could be a genuine upgrade to the Reds.
They have a functional midfield, with the likes of Henderson, Fabinho, and Georginio Wijnaldum more conventional box-to-box players instead of genuine playmakers.
Bringing in Thiago’s creativity would be a huge move, especially for such an affordable fee.
He is an exceptional carrier of the ball, averaging three dribbles per game in the Bundesliga, while he also has an average passing accuracy of 90.5%, per WhoScored.
He mucks in defensively, making 1.9 tackles per game, 1.9 interceptions, and one foul, while also registering 0.8 key passes per game.
This is an exceptional midfield player; he would be a superb signing.News Now - Sport News
