Cristiano Ronaldo has now scored more official goals than any other footballer in history, with the exception of Pele.
The Portuguese superstar took his tally to 735 official goals by scoring in Juventus’s 2-0 win over Sampdoria last weekend.
He was tied with Brazil legend Romario of 734 goals but now sits in second place on his own behind Pele (767 official goals).
Ronaldo’s latest goal was assisted by Miralem Pjanic, who will leave Turin this summer to team up with Lionel Messi and co. at Barcelona.
That’s the seventh goal that Ronaldo and Pjanic have been jointly involved in - but which of Cristiano’s teammates, both current and former, have participated in the most goals with the Portuguese legend?
Using Transfermarkt.com’s data, let’s look a little closer at the top 20 teammates of Ronaldo’s illustrious career based on joint goal participation.
20. Paulo Dybala (Joint goal participation: 12)
Ronaldo and Dybala have struck up an excellent partnership at Juventus over the past couple of seasons.
The Argentine recently moved into 20th place, leapfrogging the likes of Michael Carrick, Xabi Alonso and Paul Scholes.
19. Ricardo Quaresma (Joint goal participation: 13)
One of Ronaldo’s closest friends in football, the two forwards have played together at various levels for the Portuguese national team (including the senior side, of course) and at Sporting Lisbon during the early years of their respective careers.
18. Ruud van Nistelrooy (Joint goal participation: 14)
It’s no secret that Ruud van Nistelrooy found playing alongside a young Ronaldo incredibly frustrating. The pair of them also fell out during their time at Old Trafford.
Despite that, they were still jointly involved in 14 goals at Manchester United.
17. Nani (Joint goal participation: 14)
In 130 games together with Manchester United and Portugal, Ronaldo and Nani combined to score 14 goals.
16. Dani Carvajal (Joint goal participation: 15)
Ronaldo scored *a lot* of goals for Real Madrid - 450 to be precise - so it’s no surprise that Los Blancos players of past and present dominate the top 20.
Dani Carvajal played 165 times with Ronaldo and they were jointly involved in 15 goals.
15. Toni Kroos (Joint goal participation: 16)
Toni Kroos, the brilliant German midfielder, was involved in one more Real Madrid goals with Ronaldo than Carvajal.
14. Sergio Ramos (Joint goal participation: 16)
Not bad for a defender, eh? Sergio Ramos and Ronaldo played together 339 times at Real Madrid between 2009 and 2018.
13. Lucas Vazquez (Joint goal participation: 17)
Real Madrid’s underrated winger Lucas Vazquez was jointly involved in more goals than Kroos, which seems rather surprising.
12. Luka Modric (Joint goal participation: 17)
Another slight surprise is that Luka Modric doesn’t make the top 10 of this particular list. The Croatian was jointly involved in 17 goals with Ronaldo.
11. James Rodriguez (Joint goal participation: 18)
James Rodriguez only played 86 games alongside Ronaldo but the pair of them were jointly involved in 18 goals.
10. Kaka (Joint goal participation: 21)
Kaka played 99 matches with Ronaldo but only 4,899 minutes (even fewer than James’s 5,558 minutes).
During that time, they combined to score 21 goals.
9. Ryan Giggs (Joint goal participation: 23)
One of three former Man Utd players to make the top 20, Ryan Giggs played 204 games with Ronaldo.
8. Isco (Joint goal participation: 24)
Isco has been in and out of the Real Madrid team in recent seasons, but maybe it would have been a different story had Ronaldo stayed put at the Bernabeu. Twenty-four goals shows the pair of them had a good understanding on the pitch.
7. Wayne Rooney (Joint goal participation: 25)
No Manchester United player was directly involved in more goals with Ronaldo than Wayne Rooney.
Many people thought their relationship would never recover after Ronaldo helped to get Rooney sent off during the 2006 World Cup quarter-final clash between Portugal and England.
But Rooney knew it was in the best interests to immediately bury the hatchet, and the pair of them went from strength to strength afterwards.
6. Angel Di Maria (Joint goal participation: 28)
One of three Argentines on this list, Ronaldo obviously enjoys playing alongside attacking players from the South American nature. Imagine what him and Messi could have done together…
5. Gonzalo Higuain (Joint goal participation: 32)
Higuain is currently playing alongside Ronaldo for the second time in his career, having previously been his teammate at Real Madrid.
4. Marcelo (Joint goal participation: 33)
Only two players have played more games alongside Ronaldo - Ramos and Karim Benzema.
Marcelo would regularly combine with Ronaldo in Real Madrid’s attacking third.
3. Mesut Ozil (Joint goal participation: 38)
Ronaldo loved playing alongside Mesut Ozil and was hugely disappointed when Real Madrid allowed the German playmaker to join Arsenal back in 2013.
They only played 149 games together but combined for 41 goals.
2. Gareth Bale (Joint goal participation: 41)
Gareth Bale is second on the list, despite the fact he only played 157 matches alongside Ronaldo.
The pair of them linked up well together and enjoyed plenty of success between 2013-2018.
1. Karim Benzema (Joint goal participation: 76)
But in first place - and this won’t come as a shock to many football fans - it’s the brilliant Karim Benzema.
Without Benzema, Ronaldo wouldn’t have scored 450 goals for Real Madrid.
Cristiano will always be grateful for the Frenchman, who sacrificed his own desire to score goals in order to allow his superstar teammate to become the Bernabeu’s biggest and brightest star.
