Alfredo Morelos travels with Rangers FC amid transfer uncertainty

The season is just 24 hours away for Rangers FC.

After falling short in the Scottish Premiership last term, Steven Gerrard's side have aspirations of mounting a serious title challenge this time around.

While winning the league at any point is a massive achievement, doing so next term would be especially sweet for the blue half of Glasgow.

Celtic have enjoyed nine years of dominance in the league, and have their sights set on making it 10-in-a-row.

While Neil Lennon's side are favourites, Rangers will be quietly confident of toppling their rivals this season.

However a lot of that will depend on what is going on in the striker department.

While Gerrard is keen to bring in a new attacker anyway, the future of Alfredo Morelos is likely to have a big say on what happens.

The Colombian has scored a staggering 77 goals in 137 games since arriving at the club in 2017, meaning that he's as near to a guaranteed source of goals that Rangers will get.

But with the 24-year-old seemingly closing on on a move to Lille, it casts a question mark over how the season will pan out for the Gers.

Several strikers have been linked with a move to Ibrox already, but fans are still hopeful that he could stick around.

Those hopes been handed a boost with the news that Morelos will be involved against Aberdeen this weekend.

Many expected the striker to miss the clash with the Dons, however Steven Gerrard confirmed that he would travel with the rest of the squad.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

The Alfredo Morelos saga looks like it's going to rumble on for a while longer.

It seems that the striker is destined to move on this summer, but it remains to be seen when that deal will actually go through.

Lille seem like the most likely destination for him, but it appears that it won't be a move that happens ahead of the season opener.

Rangers are limited in terms of striking options at the moment, and that means that they could have no choice but to play the Colombian against Aberdeen.

It's a bit of a gamble as it'd be a huge surprise if his head was in the right place to give his all for Steven Gerrard's side, but he may have no choice.

Ultimately a distracted Morelos is better than not having him involved at all, and Gerrard knows that.

Whether it'll prove to be his final game for Rangers remains to be seen, but the least he should do is give his all to get the season off to the best possible start.

If he does that then I'm sure he'll be free to move on with the blessing of the supporters.
