Crystal Palace set to accept cut-price fee for star this summer

Crystal Palace endured something of a nothing season.

The club did not go down, nor were they ever really in the conversation for the European places.

Instead, they finished 14th, nine points clear of the drop zone.

And with the summer transfer window now underway, it appears that they are having to make plans.

Indeed, there is interest in the winger Wilfried Zaha from across the league, and Palace may have to lower their sights.

He was valued at £80 million last summer as both Everton and Arsenal expressed an interest in securing his signature.

However, that figure has now lowered significantly, with both Manchester United and Chelsea hopeful of securing his signature, per The Sun.

The report states that Palace could be forced to accept a fee of £30m for their star man, who wants to leave.

He currently earns £130,000-per-week at Selhurst Park and has a contract until 2023, but as Palace look to seal his sale, they are willing to drop their asking price.

Zaha scored just four goals throughout the 2019/20 season and Palace are hopeful of recouping a fee so they can reinvest this summer.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

This is a sensible option for Palace.

Lowering his asking price makes him a lower-risk signing than he would have been at around £80m.

It remains to be seen which clubs will be willing to bring him in this summer, but despite his lack of goals, he remains a tricky, game-changing presence.

Indeed, the decision to cut his potential fee by more than half could bring more interested parties to the table; there is every chance Everton, for example, could be tempted to re-enter the bidding.

It seems clear that Zaha has outgrown Selhurst Park; it is time for him to move on.
