Leeds United plot move for Feyenood star

Marcelo Bielsa's side could have a distinctly different look when the new season starts next month.

With Leeds United heading to the Premier League the onus is firmly on the Whites to strengthen their squad as they look to avoid an immediate return to the second tier.

Bielsa's side ended a 16-year exile from the top flight after securing promotion last season.

To the delight of the Leeds fans, they went up as deserved champions with a fast-paced, high-intensity style of play.

The challenge will be replicating that against some of the biggest and richest clubs in world football.

In order to compete in the Premier League it's common for newly-promoted sides to recruit players with top flight experience in England.

But if reports are to be believed, Leeds may also be looking slightly further afield.

Radio Continental are reporting that the Whites are plotting a move for Marcos Senesi.

The 23-year-old joined Dutch side Feyenoord last summer for a fee of £6.3million and didn't take long to establish himself.

A centre-back by trade, Senesi made 25 appearances this term as he proved himself as a key player under head coach Dick Advocaat.

That form has seen his value rocket, with any potential suitors now having to stump up around £18million to sign the defender.

But striking a deal could be easier said than done, with Spanish side Sevilla also said to be keen.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This is an interesting one.

Leeds United will definitely be looking to strengthen this summer as they look to adjust to life in the top flight.

But a move for Marcos Senesi seems like a long shot.

Valued at £6.3million by Transfermarkt, the Argentine defender has been impressive for Feyenoord this season and it's not a surprise that he's attracting interest.

After all, he has spent the last season taking private English lessons.

However I can't see him being a top target for Leeds.

Marcelo Bielsa is likely to prioritise players with a proven track record in either the Premier League or Championship, and Senesi doesn't have that.

A move for Ben White will surely be the top choice for the Yorkshire side, but it could be a few weeks before a decision is made on that deal.

In the meantime it's merely a case of compiling a list of potential targets and working through them.

Whether Senesi is one of those players is not yet known, but the Whites are doing the right thing by casting their net far and wide.
