Rangers FC in the hunt for Premier League starlet

Steven Gerrard celebrates

Rangers FC welcomed the addition of Kemar Roofe on Tuesday afternoon as a brand new face walked through the doors of Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard has been keen to add to his Gers squad this summer with Jon McLaughlin and Ianis Hagi arriving, but Roofe is a landmark signing.

An eye-catching signing, he arrives from Anderlecht after just a season under former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany.

However, his injury-hit spell, where he still scored six in 13 outings, has come to an abrupt end.

Roofe has plenty of experience in British football, most notably for Leeds United where he got to play under the great Marcelo Bielsa.

Whether or not the striker has been signed to replace Alfredo Morelos remains to be seen.

A deal with Lille for the Colombian's services is not close according to Gerrard, but this could pave the way for his departure.

Morelos started against Aberdeen last weekend and even assisted the winning goal for Ryan Kent.

However, for the time being, the focus should be away from Morelos and Roofe.

On the same day as news emerged of the latter's arrival, it was claimed that the Gers had entered the race to sign a young starlet.

The Daily Mail have reported that they are among four teams interested in landing Manchester City teenager Charlie McNeil.

The 16-year-old is wanted by Manchester United, Juventus and RB Leipzig too.

Thus, Rangers are facing some mightily impressive competition in order to bring him to Glasgow.

Around 600 goals in the last six years tells the stunning tale of McNeil's short career to date.

He knows where the back of the net is and with a record like that, it's hardly surprising that some of Europe's finest teams have come calling.

The forward would like to move to a team where he feels as though he can progress to the first-team, following a break down in contract talks with City.

This is eerily similar to that of Jadon Sancho, a player who left City for first-team football and eventually flourished.

The England winger contributed to 40 goals in 2019/20 and if McNeil ends up anything like that, Rangers would have a real player on their hands.

The Man City striker is still only 16 years of age but would join a rather impressive youth set-up at Ibrox.

Rangers took the Alkass International Youth Cup by storm in 2019, a tournament where their impressive starlet Charlie Lindsay scored six times and earned comparisons to Wayne Rooney.

This signing may not influence the first-team initially, but he's certainly a very bright prospect.
