Barcelona target Lautaro Martinez produced stunning highlights during Inter vs Shakhtar

Inter Milan made light work of Shakhtar Donetsk in their Europa League semi-final on Monday night.

Antonio Conte's men are hoping to round off an impressive season after finishing the Serie A campaign with the most goals, best defensive record and just one point behind Juventus.

So, winning the Europa League against Sevilla in Friday's final would be the perfect conclusion to a year of great forward strides and their performance in the final four was certainly promising.

Inter Milan 5-0 Shakhtar Donetsk

There were some pundits and fans who fancied Shakhtar's chances of causing an upset in Cologne, which wasn't completely unfounded considering they put four past Basel in the quarter-finals.

But the gulf in class between the Ukrainians and their Italian opponents was clear in the early exchanges and by the time the second-half had rolled around, the floodgates opened.

Romelu Lukaku claimed most of the headlines for his brace in the 5-0 demolition job, the biggest win in Europa League semi-final history, while Danilo D'Ambrosio also notched a headed goal.

Martinez shines vs Shakhtar

However, it was the sensational Lautaro Martinez that was the star performer on the night in many people's eyes, scoring twice and providing an assist to win the Man of the Match award.

In fact, Martinez's performance was so brilliant that bestowed him with their coveted 10/10 match rating based on a variety of statistics.

But Martinez moving to 21 goals for the season will have done more than have Inter fans applauding because the Argentine has been widely linked with a move to Barcelona.

Martinez has been widely reported as one of the biggest transfer targets at Camp Nou and their 8-2 humiliation against Bayern Munich will have done nothing but increase their desire to sign him.

And it looks as though Martinez could be particularly useful as a long-term replacement for Luis Suarez, who is seeing both his goal-scoring and general form start to decline at 33 years old.

Does Martinez fit the bill, though? You're darn right he does and there's no better demonstration of why Barca are chasing his signature than the highlights he produced vs Shakhtar.

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

What. A. Player.

Look, Barca's recruitment has been absolutely woeful recently and they seem about as capable of pinpointing a decent player as they are at keeping a clean sheet against Bayern.

But... you don't have to be a world-class scout nor a student of Johan Cruyff to realise that Martinez is one of the most exciting and talented starlets in the beautiful game.

He is, as far as I can see, the perfect long-term replacement for Suarez and Barca could save themselves tens of millions if they open their wallet this summer to sign him as soon as possible.

Sure, he wouldn't hit the ground running in the way that Suarez did in 2015 - he's still only 22, lest we forget - but there's good reason to think he could follow the same trajectory as Neymar.

You only need to look at his potent finishing, deft creativity and overall X-factor in a Europa League semi-final to see that Martinez, wherever he might go, is a talent we can no longer ignore.
