Rangers FC have high hopes for the season ahead.

After watching their rivals Celtic take the Scottish title in each of the last nine seasons, the team at Ibrox will be thinking that enough is enough.

The Bhoys are targeting 10-in-a-row but Steven Gerrard's side would love nothing more than to be the team that stops them reaching that milestone.

The Gers have made an unbeaten start to life in the league and current sit at the top of the table.

For them, the challenge now is to stay there.

While plenty of summer business has already ben done, it's what happens between now and the transfer deadline passing that could decide where the title ends up.

Incomings are one part, but for Rangers it could be outgoings that prove to be pivotal with Alfredo Morelos attracting the headlines.

The Colombian has been heavily linked with a move away from Glasgow, most notably with Lille and AC Milan recently linked with a move.

But with a deal yet to be agreed, former Leeds United forward Noel Whelan believes that Rangers would be foolish not to keep playing him due to his threat in front of goal.

Asked if Morelos would could excel in Serie A, Whelan told Football Insider: “He would – but Steven has said before that there has been no contract, no firm offers for Morelos.

“Until an offer has been accepted and agreed by two clubs, he’s going to keep using him because you can’t afford to not have your best players on the field.

“While he’s a Rangers player, he will get played because he is the best striker at the club. You need players like that to win matches. You might as well utilise what you’ve got right now.

“But look, I think Steven will cross that bridge when he comes to it. I think he’s probably aware that if a bid comes in and it’s acceptable, they will let him go.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

It certainly seems like a case of 'when' rather than 'if' Alfredo Morelos leaves the club.

The Rangers talisman looks ready to move on for a new challenge, and in fairness I think it's one that he deserves.

When that move will happen is not yet decided, but Steven Gerrard will certainly be happy with what he's seeing in the meantime.

Morelos could easily sulk, but instead he's been available for every game so far and showed exactly why he's so in-demand.

His days at Ibrox seem to be numbered, and it'll be a shame to see him go - but with Kemar Roofe now on board I don't think Rangers will suffer too much.
