Rangers FC eye swoop for Drogba-like striker

Steven Gerrard

Rangers FC are enjoying a fantastic season so far with Steven Gerrard breaking records with the Glaswegians.

The Gers are unbeaten from their opening six matches in the SPFL and are now three points clear at the top of the table.

To make matters even better, they're also ahead of their arch-rivals Celtic by six points.

On top of that, the Light Blues have a stupendous defensive record.

For a side who looked all over the shop defensively in the second half of last season, they have improved and look reinvigorated.

Rangers are yet to concede this season, keeping six successive clean sheets at the start of a Scottish season for the first time since Celtic in 1906

It's a remarkable record and one they should be proud of. Providing they can keep teams from scoring, then Gerrard's men will well and truly be in the hat to win the title.

They've made promising additions in the transfer market too. Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe have bolstered their attacking line while Jon McLaughlin has five clean sheets from five matches.

However, Ross Wilson's work isn't done there as he eyes yet another arrival from an attacking point of view.

According to a report from Norwegian outlet Nettavisen, Rangers are hoping to sign 18-year-old forward and "great talent" Emanuel Kulego this summer.

They will face competition from Brendan Rodgers' Leicester side if they want to sign the talented teenager.

The youngster is yet to make a single appearance in Norway's top-flight but has starred for Rosenborg's youth teams.

Kulego only signed a new deal in the last few months so any move could be difficult to complete.

The striker said this summer: "I know that some clubs are interested, but nothing more than that. I don’t want to comment much more than that, as I’ve heard a little bit."

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Rangers may be well-stocked in the attacking department but there is little wrong with signing a prestigious young talent like Kulego.

The 18-year-old scored one goal in the third tier of Norway's football pyramid last season but despite how few games he's played, he appears ready to make a big impact when he gets an opportunity in the first-team.

Kulego holds himself in high esteem, comparing himself to the great Didier Drogba and hailing the Ivorian as his footballing hero.

Speaking in May 2019, the teen commented: "I am a type of backroom striker, and Didier Drogba is someone who inspires me. My big brother is a big Chelsea supporter, and we followed very closely during Drogba's heyday. Then it was easy to choose him as the favourite."

Fascinating words indeed from a young player who already knows his game inside out. You have to give the striker credit for being so ambitious in his goals.

Whether or not the Norway youth international lives up to that kind of hype remains to be seen, but he'll certainly be inducted into a fabulous looking youth set-up.

The Gers won the Alkass Cup in 2019, a tournament that was contested by the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter and PSG. Clearly, they know how to develop a good prospect when they see one in Glasgow.

Just look at Chelsea's Charlie Gilmour.
