Tottenham identify new striker option in the transfer market

Tottenham face Everton on the opening weekend of the Premier League season in just a few days.

It'll follow what has been a rather intriguing summer in north London.

Daniel Levy's spending power has been limited by the ongoing pandemic and consequently, they've been left behind by their rivals in the transfer market.

That's not to say that Spurs haven't had a good window though.

They have done well to acquire who they have given their lack of finances. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was the first to sign and then Joe Hart walked through the door on a free transfer.

However, the most eye-catching swoop has been full-back Matt Doherty. The Irishman has become one of the most consistent right-backs in the division so should add a great deal to a side that previously had to rely on Serge Aurier in that position.

Despite their lack of financial might, Tottenham are still looking to conclude further business before the window slams shut.

According to Football London, they have a few strikers in mind - three in fact.

They are Metz forward Habib Diallo and Napoli attacker Arkadiusz Milik. However, the one we're going to focus on is a new name this summer - Patson Daka.

The outlet believes that Tottenham are firmly interested in signing the striker who currently plays for RB Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Unfortunately, Spurs could face plenty of competition for his signature.

It's explained that a host of clubs across Europe are currently monitoring Daka's situation. Aged just 21, it wouldn't be a surprise if he cost a pretty penny.

Transfermarkt value him at £18m.

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

Spurs don't exactly need someone to try and dislodge Harry Kane at the front of their side but Daka would be an absolutely exceptional signing.

When Kane was injured, Spurs were victorious from just three of seven league matches. That points to a team who are lacking a degree of firepower when he's absent.

Daka, however, would offer plenty. He is a quick striker capable of running in behind and he's also good with the ball at his feet.

Capped 18 times by Zambia, Herve Renard once said: "He is a modern centre-forward, quick, capable of working hard and making the difference because he is skilful and has good movement."

That bodes well for Spurs but so does his ridiculous goals record in recent times. For Salzburg, he netted 27 goals in 45 outings last season. Daka also scored four goals this week in his first appearance of the new campaign.

This is a clinical goalscorer who could well follow in the footsteps of plenty who have stood at Salzburg before him.

It's a club that used to house Sadio Mane and Erling Haaland, someone he's been tipped to replicate going forward. That's hardly a surprise when you consider their growth in the same side.
