Phil Hay delivers Leeds United transfer boost over £55m double deal

Leeds United have high hopes for the season ahead.

Confidence is high at Elland Road after winning the Championship last term, and the hope is that they can carry that feeling into this season.

Despite losing their opening game in the Premier League 4-3 to Liverpool, Marcelo Bielsa's side will be confident of having a good season after conducting some good business in the transfer market.

Robin Koch and Rodrigo both arrived on big-money deals, while a number of young players also made the move to west Yorkshire.

But Leeds aren't done yet.

The hope is that the Whites will be able to wrap up another couple of deals before the transfer window slams shut.

Rodrigo De Paul and Josko Gvardiol have both been heavily linked with a move for the Udinese and Dinamo Zagreb star's respectively.

But while there's been little in the way of progress, Phil Hay believes that the club are in a position to fund both deals which could total £55million.

Writing for The Athletic, Hay said: "Leeds like De Paul but you'll have noticed that since the name first emerged, they haven't piled in to get a deal done.

"They've been holding off and likewise with Gvardiol.

"The money is there in the sense that the budget would stretch but in both cases it's a judgement about whether the money is worth spending.

"De Paul will cost £35m unless Udinese lower their asking price.

"Gvardiol is £20m and he wouldn't be first choice (although that could still be an excellent investment for the future)."

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Things have gone a little bit quiet on the transfer front at Leeds United.

After a flurry of early deals were completed by the Yorkshire club, the feeling was that they would really crack on and get their business completed early.

But that hasn't happened.

Fans might be a little bit concerned, but I don't think there's any need to be too worried.

With a few weeks left in the transfer window, there's still plenty of time to get some deals done.

The interest in Rodrigo De Paul and Josko Gvardiol seems to be genuine, and based on Phil Hay's comments it seems that Leeds are confident of getting the deals done.

They may move to be costly but the club will need to splash out if they're to get the players that they want.
