Leeds in talks to sign 17-cap international today

Marcelo Bielsa and Jurgen Klopp

Leeds United are yet to win this season but there are still plenty of reasons to be positive about their chances in 2020/21.

Marcelo Bielsa has signed a new contract and they have a record signing in Rodrigo to boot.

Further that with the fact they scored three goals at Anfield last weekend, and there is every reason to believe they can compete properly this term.

Of course, they may need a few more extra signings to truly establish themselves but the future is bright at Elland Road.

After all, they are back in the Premier League for the first time since 2004.

It's been a long time to wait for supporters, so it's rather typical that fans aren't actually allowed in the stadiums quite yet.

Once they are, however, the Leeds fans will enter the ground with a sense of excitement. That will only escalate if they sign one of their major targets too.

Marcelo Bielsa

Everyone knows now that the club have been trying to pursue a deal for Rodrigo de Paul at Udinese.

However, try as they might, it's been a difficult transfer to conclude. The Italian outfit want a fee of £37m for his services but Leeds are unwilling to meet that.

Personal terms have been agreed and the player even hinted he was keen on joining in a social media post.

That being said, there is yet to be a breakthrough in negotiations between the two clubs.

Football Insider reported on Friday morning that talks were continuing today and that Leeds were on the phone constantly to try and get things concluded.

Rodrigo de Paul

GIVEMESPORT'S Matt Dawson says...

A move for De Paul has become the very definition of a transfer saga this summer.

The Argentine was incredibly impressive in Serie A last term, contributing to 14 goals and assists over the course of the season.

On that evidence, it's clear to see why Leeds want him at Elland Road.

After all, Pablo Hernandez is now 35 and is approaching the end of his career so a replacement will be needed sooner rather than later.

At £37m, it would be a ridiculous price to fork out and with Emiliano Buendia wanting a Premier League move, perhaps a cheaper alternative can be found elsewhere. It's easy to forget that Leeds were linked with Julian Draxler a few weeks ago too.

Rodrigo de Paul

If Leeds can get the price down to somewhere in the region of £30m, the same fee they splashed out on Rodrigo, it would be far better business.

However, for the time being, Leeds should be spending their remaining funds on improving their centre-back options.

They still only have three viable players to choose from - Pascal Struijk, Robin Koch and Liam Cooper.
