Tottenham made enquiry for experienced international

Haris Seferovic

After Tottenham went 1-0 down against Southampton on Sunday lunchtime, supporters would have been fearing the worst.

Their defeat to Everton last weekend showed just how much work Jose Mourinho has to do, but all of a sudden, proceedings at Spurs are starting to look a lot rosier.

The north Londoners eventually went onto win 5-2 as a clinical attacking display from Harry Kane and Heung-min Son put the Saints to the sword.

Mourinho's men now have a bit of momentum.

They won in the Europa League in midweek and have added two high-class individuals to their team.

Of course, Gareth Bale rejoined Tottenham on a season-long loan after initially leaving for Real Madrid seven years ago.

He was joined by teammate Sergio Reguilon who signed for the club on exactly the same day. After Daniel Levy's mooted transfer window so far, they came alive in devastating fashion.

This is a good time to be a Tottenham supporter and they could well complete more business before the window closes next month.

Mourinho is insistent on adding a forward to the club this summer but Levy hasn't had much luck.

That theme has continued with a fresh report emerging from Portugal.

According to Mais Transferências (via Sport Witness), Tottenham made an enquiry to sign Swizterland international Haris Seferovic from Benfica.

Spurs have been tracking the 65-cap forward since January and had a bid of €15m (£13.7m) rejected for his services then. However, they had another offer turned away this summer.

This time, the club had offered a loan with an option to buy but that was swiftly beaten away by senior officials at Benfica.

It looks like Spurs will have to look elsewhere.

Sticking five past Southampton may indicate that Tottenham don't need another striker, but the fact is, their requirements run deeper than that.

Kane has missed 33 matches over the last two seasons and when he isn't fit, they lack firewpoer and struggle significantly. For example, in seven league matches they played without Kane last term, they only won on three occasions.

Time is running out, however.

Andrea Belotti and Patson Daka, two former targets, wanted to stay at Torino and Salzburg, while Alexander Sorloth is set to join Leipzig.

Kane and Son

The main issue Tottenham are having is convincing someone to come and play second fiddle to Kane. In a year where regular game time will effect players chances of playing in the European Championships, it could be a struggle.

Spurs also saw an enquiry for Danny Ings rejected but it's unlikely he'd want to sit on the bench for a year anyway.

Levy is essentailly looking for a needle in a haystack here.
