Manchester United tipped to move for rival manager amid Solskjaer criticism

Manchester United are facing a big season in the Premier League.

After securing a third place finish last term the hope is that the club are able to kick on this term and go one step further.

Liverpool and Manchester City were runaway leaders in the top flight last term, but United will have ambitions of catching their rivals up this time around.

The hope was that some significant action in the transfer market could see them make up some ground, however it's been a frustrating summer in that regard.

Donny Van de Beek is the only notable addition so far this summer, and while more players are expected to arrive it seems that the challenge facing them could be more difficult that first thought.

To make things worse the new season got off to the worst possible start at the weekend with United falling to a 3-1 defeat against Crystal Palace.

That result saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer come in for criticism for the way that he approached the match.

Tony Cascarino was discussing the result on TalkSPORT and even suggested that United would be better served with a manager such as Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa in charge.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, as quoted by The Express, Cascarino said: “I think Solskjaer got a lot wrong yesterday because he should have made changes a lot earlier.

“I was watching Leeds in the earlier game, and then watching Man United at 5:30pm, and I was thinking, ‘maybe United do need something different’.

“Not players, but maybe they need Bielsa.

“I’m looking at Man United and thinking they do the exact opposite of what Leeds do – they don’t take risks.

“When Ole gets it right – and he has got it right in a good few games – they are offensive and attacking and dangerous from many parts of the team.

“But yesterday they were laboured, sloppy and never had anything which represents Manchester United.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

I can't see this happening at all.

Ole Gunnar Solsksjaer's side had a rough time at the weekend against Crystal Palace but that doesn't mean that his job is under threat - nor is Cascarino hinting as much.

Marcelo Bielsa is one of the best managers in the world, and that means that any club worth their salt would surely love to get him on board if the opportunity presented itself.

But with Leeds United now in the Premier League I can't see him moving anywhere.

He's already got his squad how he wants it and that has taken time and effort, meaning that it would be a big ask for him to move on.

Add into that the rivalry between Leeds and Manchester United and you have plenty of reasons why this simply won't happen.
