Aston Villa plot move for 13-goal La Liga hitman

Aston Villa certainly mean business this season.

After securing promotion from the Championship last season was always going to be something of a struggle.

Despite spending vast sums last summer, the club only managed to survive by the skin of their teeth after taking their relegation battle until the final moments of the last game of the season.

But now is the time to kick on.

Dean Smith has hopes of moving the club away from the relegation battle this time around as he strives for a mid-table position.

Doing so is no easy task, and that's why Villa have looked to make some big moves in the transfer market.

The club have spent £74million so far this summer on a number of additions to Smith's squad.

They include deals for Matty Cash, Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Martinez and most recently, Bertrand Traore.

But it seems that they're not finished yet.

Villa are still determined to sign an out-and-out striker to bolster their attacking line and a new target has emerged.

Reports from Spanish outlet Marca have linked Aston Villa with a move for Ante Budimir.

The Real Mallorca frontman enjoyed an excellent season last time out after scoring 13 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions.

Valued at £13.5million by Transfermarkt, Budimir looks set to move on this summer after seeing his team relegated from La Liga last term, something that has alerted several clubs to his services.

Alongside Aston Villa, Sheffield United are also said to be keen.

It's claimed that Real Mallorca would accept something close to his valuation, particularly given the fact that at 29 years of age he's arguably a player who will be seen a relatively short-term solution.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This could be an excellent move for Aston Villa.

It's been no secret that the Premier League club are looking out for a new striker and so this link comes as no surprise.

Ante Budimir might not be a household name in England but he certainly boasts an impressive record.

While his age may be a minor negative, the fact that he could be available for as little as £13million is surely a big boost.

Aston Villa have spent a substantial amount already this summer and that has to be taken into consideration.

COVID-19 has hit the pockets of every club and so it would be unreasonable to expect Smith's side to splash out a huge sum on yet another player.

Given his quality, Budimir could be a very shrewd addition who can make an immediate impact.
