Leeds United plot move for in-demand midfield maestro

Leeds United are on top of the world right now.

Last season saw the Whites secure promotion from the Championship as runaway leaders, an achievement that ended their 16-year exile from the top flight.

Avoiding relegation was the name of the game this term, but based on early results they'll be aiming much higher.

Three wins and a draw from their opening six games has seen the club move into the upper echelons of the Premier League table.

If they can maintain this sort of form over the course of the campaign it could be a historic season.

Marcelo Bielsa deserves plenty of credit for the work that he's done with Leeds' first team squad to get them to this level, but plaudits must also go to the recruitment team.

Victor Orta led a successful summer in the transfer market as they added real quality to the Whites' set-up with players such as Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Rodrigo and Raphinha.

But it seems that Leeds aren't finished yet as they continue to target the best young talent on the continent.

Reports from Calcio Mercato have claimed that the club are keen on a move for Lovro Majer.

The Dinamo Zagreb midfielder is attracting interest from a number of clubs including Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.

Compared to Luka Modric, the 22-year-old has already scored three and created two in six appearances so far this term.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This would be a very exciting signing.

Valued at just £2.07million by Transfermarkt, Lovro Majer is a player who looks destined for a career at the highest level.

The similarities with Luka Modric are clear for all to see with the young Croatian looking like a carbon copy of the technically gifted midfielder.

For Leeds United this would be a perfect signing.

Marcelo Bielsa loves working with talented young players and Majer certainly fits the bill.

If the Whites can attract a player of the 22-year-old's quality then it would be a huge signal of intent.

But based on Leeds' results so far this term it certainly appears that the club will be battling at the top end of the table before long.
