Sergio Reguilon has been an excellent signing for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Spanish left-back arrived in a headline-grabbing permanent deal from Real Madrid; Gareth Bale also arrived on loan on the same day.

Reguilon has enjoyed a fine start to life under manager Jose Mourinho since his arrival.

He made his debut in the EFL Cup clash with Chelsea, helping the side to a penalty shootout victory, and he has also played against both Manchester United and West Ham United in the Premier League and Maccabi Haifa in the Europa League.

Reguilon’s performances have been so good that reports in Spain actually suggest that Real could look to bring him back to the Bernabeu.

The Liga giants included a buy-back clause in the deal that saw Reguilon move to Spurs.

The price is said to stand at £40.6m, and means that Spurs are unable to reject any such offer from the Spanish club.

Sport Witness carried a report from AS earlier this week claiming that manager Zinedine Zidane made the decision to allow Reguilon to leave, something the club already regrets.

But Reguilon has now insisted that his focus is solely with Spurs, and on helping the club win trophies.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "Real Madrid is the club where I was made, the club where I grew up, and I would be nothing without them.

"Leaving was a difficult step to take but it's one you have to take at one point or another and, for me, I think it was the right time.

“It's tough to leave your family and everything, but this league, for me, is the best in the world and I am very happy here. Now I just want to focus on trying to help this club win trophies."

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Spurs have to hope that Reguilon becomes enough of a star that he does not see any reason to leave.

He is playing continuously and is already clearly the best left-back at the club.

There is absolutely no guarantee that he will want to move to Spain if they do table their offer and the only way to ensure he stays is to show him the love he feels he deserves.

Thus far, Spurs are doing exactly that, giving him all the minutes he needs.

As the season progresses, one has to hope that it continues, and Reguilon comes to believe that north London is the best, and only, place for him.
