Results may have slowed of late but Aston Villa are on the rise.
Speaking to Football Insider, former Villa favourite Gabby Agbonlahor has named two players the club aren’t likely to sell.
During an interview with Dylan Childs, the retired striker was waxing lyrical on the club’s ability to secure a new deal for Jack Grealish, though name-checked another impressive pair.
“We’re not going to sell Mings, we’re not going to sell McGinn, we’re not gonna sell Grealish – we’re going to tie them down to longer deals and keep them'', said the 34-year-old.
Indeed, these sound like exciting times for the Midlands giants after a difficult first season back in the Premier League.
In Tyrone Mings, John McGinn and Jack Grealish, the core of the team built to win promotion from the Championship looks to be going from strength to strength.
The former is now regularly included in the England squad while the latter saw his form last season rewarded with £50m links to Manchester United.
Mings signed a new deal in September meaning he will be under contract for another four years and McGinn is only one season into the five-year agreement he penned in 2019, so there doesn’t appear to be much pressure to sell should interest arise.
With Villa spending relatively big money in the transfer market, the club look to be building for the future when you consider the likes of Ollie Watkins, Bertrand Traore and Matty Cash are only in their mid-twenties.
After surviving by the skin of their teeth last season, Aston Villa can start to look forward again.
