WWE: Bianca Belair honoured by state of Tennessee after WrestleMania win

WWE superstar Bianca Belair has been honoured by the state of Tennessee –– being provided with a Senate Joint Resolution issuing a proclamation congratulating her on her success in the ring.

Belair was born in Knoxville and completed her college career at the University of Tennessee, where she specialised as a track and field athlete, competing in the hurdles.

The 32-year-old has established herself as one of the top names in the WWE after being drafted to the SmackDown brand in the 2020 draft.

Having entered the 2021 Royal Rumble at #3, Belair lastest a record 56 minutes in the ring and became the first black superstar to win the event.

The Knoxville born wrestler then took on Sasha Banks in the WrestleMania 37 main event –– beating The Boss to win the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Belair took to Twitter to thank her state for the honour and shared a photo of the resolution. She wrote: “WOW. What a day!”

The resolution itself read: “Be it resolved by the Senate of the one hundred twelfth general assembly of the state of Tenessee, the house of the representatives concurring, that we honour and congratulate Knoxville native Bianca Blair Crawford upon her Bianca Beliar character winning the World Wrestling Entertainment SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania and extend to her our best wishes for much continued success in the wrestling ring and in life.”

Belair’s reign as champion lasted just 133 days, however. At SummerSlam, her opponent Carmella was attacked by a returning Becky Lynch who then challenged Belair to a title fight –– winning the match in just over 30 seconds.

The two will fight again for the belt at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view on September 26th in Ohio.

Speaking ahead of the match, Belair told WNML:

“I’m still very hurt by how I did lose the title at SummerSlam. I was excited to get in there with Becky. I wasn’t expecting the title match to happen so quickly. Right now, I’m just trying to regain what I lost as quickly as possible. Just as quickly as I lost, I’m trying to gain it back.

"Becky has been ducking and dodging me, I finally got her to sign the contract for my rematch. I know that if we really go toe-to-toe in a long match, the outcome is going to be different. I’m excited for that.”
