Ronald Koeman walks out of Barcelona press conference without taking questions

Barcelona press conference Ronald Koeman

Despite being a Barcelona legend, Ronald Koeman has endured a difficult spell in charge of the club.

Drench in the traditions of the Camp Nou giants and boasting a strong connection to the iconic Johan Cruyff, the former defender formed part of the 'Dream Team' who won the European Cup for the first time in the club's history back in 1991.

While the 58-year-old did manage to win the Copa del Rey in his first season back with the Catalan giants, the chickens of Barcelona's financial mismanagement are finally coming home to roost.

Indeed, with the club over €1bn in debt, Koeman was forced to watch Lionel Messi walk away for free and, after a poor start to the season, the pressure is on.

Conducting a press conference, Koeman pleaded for time and spoke of Barcelona's need to restructure. Without taking any questions, the former Southampton and Everton boss simply got up and walked away, leaving journalists shocked.

The gist of what Koeman was saying was relayed by Rik Sharma of Goal below.

While, of course, the fact he left without taking questions is unlikely to do much to prove his doubters wrong, Koeman has been dealt a difficult hand.

The Messi saga coming so late in the summer didn't exactly give him enough time to react and the sins of the past - which have nothing to do with him - are coming back to bite the club.
