Molineux transfer news: The big question Wolves fans have about Adama Traore's form

Wolves winger Adama Traore

Wolverhampton Wanderers fans are starting to question whether Adama Traore's impressive early season performances are due to him hoping to catch the eye of potential suitors, according to Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield.

What's the latest news involving Traore?

Wolves are looking to make Traore their highest-paid player by tying him down to a new four-year contract worth £120,000-per-week.

If the Spain international agrees to the terms, he would more than double his wage package as his current deal, which has less than two years remaining, is worth £43,000-per-week.

Wolves are hopeful that Traore will commit his long-term future to the club after seeing Tottenham Hotspur actively track the pacy winger during the summer transfer window.

Spurs, fresh from appointing Nuno Espirito Santo as their head coach after the Portuguese mutually agreed to part ways with Wolves, looked to strike a season-long loan deal which included the view to a permanent £40million transfer next summer.

After seeing their initial proposal rejected, Spurs hoped to agree terms having returned with a £30million bid soon before the deadline.

But, after being frustrated once again, Spurs admitted defeat in their pursuit by choosing not to match Wolves' £45million price tag for the 25-year-old.

What has Luke Hatfield said about Traore's contract situation?

Hatfield believes Wolves went into the contract discussions with Traore confident that a deal would be struck.

However, he admits supporters are now even more fearful that he could leave Molineux in the not-too-distant future.

Hatfield told GMS: "Wolves have always been confident that they can try and offer him new terms and he would agree to them but there's always that thorn in their side in the sense that he's not actually done it yet.

"It's been a long while now since those terms have been on the table for him and you can almost sense the toing and froing between the parties.

"Ultimately, players do put themselves in the shop window. Traore has been playing really well this season. He hasn't picked up the stats to match but he has been one of the most exciting players for Wolves.

"The natural question, for many fans, would be is he only putting these performances in to get himself a better deal elsewhere?"

How has Traore performed this season?

While Wolves have struggled under new head coach Bruno Lage, winning just one Premier League clash since his summer appointment, Traore has been one of the club's best performers despite still waiting to register a goal or an assist.

Traore has started all of Wolves' Premier League clashes so far and also won two Spain caps during the recent international break.
