Tammy Abraham is fast becoming an AS Roma hero after leaving Chelsea

  • Rob Swan

Tammy Abraham has enjoyed a dream start to his AS Roma career following his summer move from Chelsea.

The 23-year-old joined the Italian outfit in a £34 million deal and has settled quicker than some had anticipated.

Abraham hit the ground running by earning a standing ovation in a 3-1 win over Fiorentina in August after providing two assists.

Since then, the England international has scored three goals in seven appearances for the Giallorossi, who are managed by Jose Mourinho.

Abraham netted his latest goal in a 1-0 win over Udinese on Thursday evening.

The 6ft 3in striker produced an unorthodox finish with the outside of his boot after being picked out inside the six-yard box by left-back Riccardo Calafiori.

What a smart finish that is.

Abraham’s goal was enough to seal Roma all three points. Mourinho’s side currently sit fourth in the Serie A table, three points behind league-leaders Napoli, after five games.

Video: Tammy Abraham sings AS Roma anthem

The Englishman had already further endeared himself to the Roma fans by singing the club’s pre-match anthem inside the Stadio Olimpico before kick-off.

He hasn’t been a Roma player for long but Abraham has clearly fallen in love with the club already - and the fans feel the same about him.

Among those to react to the video of Abraham singing Roma’s anthem was Manchester United star Marcus Rashford, who tweeted: “My boy”.

Will Chelsea regret selling Tammy Abraham?

Chelsea fans, meanwhile, can be forgiven for wondering if Thomas Tuchel made a mistake selling Abraham in the summer.

While the vast majority of supporters would regard Romelu Lukaku as an upgrade on the former Chelsea starlet, Abraham’s performances since leaving Stamford Bridge prove he’s a top young striker.

And if he continues to shine between now and the end of the season, it wouldn’t be a shock if some of Europe’s top clubs consider a move for the gifted centre-forward next summer.
