Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge cannot believe that Tottenham didn't try and sign striker Odsonne Edouard this summer.

What happened with Edouard?

After scoring 86 goals across four trophy-filled seasons with Celtic, the Frenchman finally left the club and made the switch to the Premier League.

Edouard had been linked to several English clubs, although his dream of playing in the Premier League looked like it wouldn't be happening this summer when he started the season playing for Celtic.

However, late on transfer deadline day, the striker was snapped up by Crystal Palace in a £14m deal.

Leicester, Arsenal and West Ham were just three of those linked with Edouard, but he ended up opting for a move to south London and a switch to Selhurst Park.

Tottenham were one club desperately in need of a back-up for Harry Kane, and Bridge was surprised that Nuno Espirito Santo's side didn't join the race for the 23-year-old's signature.

What did Bridge say?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "Odsonne Edouard, for the fee they paid for him and the money I've been told, I don't know why Tottenham didn't go in for him as a second striker."

Despite Kane's early-season struggles, the England captain has been a tremendous servant over the last seven years and has virtually carried the club single-handedly at times.

However, with Tottenham fighting on four fronts once again this term, Kane needs help and must be rested whenever possible.

A prime example of that was the recent Europa League Conference game in Rennes. It remains to be seen as to how seriously Spurs are taking the competition, but Kane shouldn't be starting any group stage matches.

Did Eric Dier score for Tottenham Hotspur on his Premier League debut for the club?

Fortunately for Santo, he avoided picking up an injury, but playing Kane in those type of games is a disaster waiting to happen. Rennes were a physical team, with Lucas Moura and Steve Bergwijn finding that out first hand as they both hobbled off in France.

Jose Mourinho saw the benefits of having Carlos Vinicius at his disposal last season, playing in the called easier Europa League and FA Cup games, which allowed Kane to rest and stay fresh for more important games.

Vinicius was far from a world beater, but having an extra body in there right now would be very helpful to the Spurs boss.
