Ex-WWE star AJ Lee confirms return to wrestling

AJ Lee has announced that she is returning to the world of professional wrestling.

The former WWE star has not been seen in a wrestling ring since 2015, when she teamed up with Naomi and Paige to beat Natalya and the Bella Twins on Monday Night Raw

Since then, AJ Lee, who will now work under her real name, AJ Mendez, has stepped away from wrestling, even writing a book, but has now revealed that she is set to be a big part of the relaunch of Women of Wrestling.

Per Digital Spy, Mendez will serve as the colour commentator on the show and will also be an executive producer.

Speaking at a press conference earlier this week, AJ said:

"My goal after wrestling was to create those characters for the next generation.

"So every little girl could see themselves on TV and know that nothing was impossible."

Her retirement from WWE back in 2015 came after she held the WWE Divas Championship three times, including a record-breaking run with the belt of 295 days.

WOW have also announced that Tessa Blanchard will be performing with the company, and episodes of the new show will begin to air in 2022.

Owner Jeannie Buss said:

"Wrestling's presentation of women has long been very important to me, and we now are presenting the epitome in sports entertainment that will highlight the athleticism of these superstars as we reintroduce WOW.

"Our partnership with the entire ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group family allows us to continue our mission of providing wrestling fans and WOW Superheroes what they have all deserved: a global platform for a dedicated women's wrestling league."

AJ's return to wrestling comes after her husband, CM Punk, made a shock comeback to professional wrestling with AEW after a seven-year hiatus.

It remains to be seen if Mendez will get in the ring, but it's good to see her back in the world of professional wrestling!
