Dani Alves is reportedly keen on the idea of a shock return to Barcelona, five years after leaving the Catalan club.

The legendary Brazilian right-back, 38, recently left Sao Paulo due to delayed salary payments and is on the lookout for a new team.

Esport2, per Spanish newspaper Marca, understand that Alves has offered his services to Barça, where he spent eight hugely successful years.

Despite his advancing years, Alves remains a fine player and was part of the Brazil squad that won Olympic gold in the summer.

This was the 43rd trophy of the defender’s extraordinary career. No player has won more silverware than the South American. His former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi is currently second on the list with 38 major trophies.

Whether Barça, ninth in La Liga at the time of writing, are interested in re-signing Alves is currently unclear.

But there’s no doubt that many cules would love to see him back at the club, not only because of his quality on the pitch but also because of his experience and infectious personality.

Alves has been hugely popular with supporters and teammates wherever he’s played. Always laughing and joking, the Brazilian has enjoyed himself throughout his career - and the same can’t be said for a lot of footballers.

Video: Alves jokes with Barcelona bench during kick-off

There was one brilliant moment that summed Alves up when he returned to Camp Nou with Juventus in April 2017.

Moments before kick-off in the quarter-final second leg of the Champions League(!), Alves was filmed joking around with Barcelona’s bench.

He was messing around with Barça’s coaching staff and substitutes, much to manager Luis Enrique’s amusement.

Referee Bjorn Kuipers wasn’t waiting around for Alves to stop joking around and blew the whistle to start the match without Juve’s right-back on the pitch.

Enrique’s reaction was priceless as the game began without the former Barcelona star.

Watch the funny clip here:

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri presumably had his head in his hands at the time.

But all was forgiven by full-time as Alves helped Juve, who went on to reach the Champions League final that season, keep a clean sheet.
