WWE SmackDown: Bayley brands Sonya Deville a ‘cheat’ after win against Naomi

WWE superstar Sonya Deville has been branded a cheater by former Triple Crown Champion Bayley after she brought out Shayna Baszler to fight alongside her against Naomi on this week’s SmackDown.

Deville was returning to in-ring action for the first time in 14 months, having served as the assistant to on-screen authority figure Adam Pearce on SmackDown for most of this year.

In her return match, Deville was scheduled to face Naomi, whom she’s been at odds with since the latter came to SmackDown. Deville had refused to schedule Naomi since she moved to RAW and things finally came to a head.

Yet, instead of facing Naomi on her own, Deville brought out Baszler alongside her –– turning the match into a handicap contest.

While Naomi succeeded in knocking down Baszler early on, it proved to be a one-sided affair thereafter, as Baszler and Deville combined to brutally assault the former SmackDown women’s champion.

After Baszler locked in the Clutch, Deville mocked Naomi and posed with a foot on top of her rival to claim victory.

Some WWE superstars, including Bayley, were not impressed by the actions of Deville and called her out on Twitter.

Bayley wrote: “Sonya de-idiot! What a cheater. I do not approve.”

Fans were quick to jump on this Tweet as a sign of Bayley’s impending return as a face. The Hugger, as she was formerly known, used to be one of the most popular faces in the company, but turned heel in September 2019 for the first time.

Bayley still holds the record for longest reign as a SmackDown women’s champion, however, she is currently out injured, having torn her ACL at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando.

Yet, this criticism of Deville could be a hint that her in-ring return is coming soon. One fan said: “Bayley returning as a face confirmed.”

Meanwhile, another put “Yes! We need the old gimmick back.”

Despite some demanding Bayley return to her old ways, her stint as a heel was also well received and she was scheduled to fight Bianca Belair at Money in the Bank prior to her injury.

When she does inevitably return, many will no doubt be calling for her to receive another title shot, though she may well have to deal with both Baszler and Deville first.
