Wolves team news: Confirmed 'blow' for Bruno Lage; they still have 'big hopes' at Molineux

Wolves head coach Bruno Lage

Wolverhampton Wanderers have high hopes for Yerson Mosquera despite suffering a long-term injury last month, according to Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield.

How long is Mosquera expected to be out of action for?

Wolves will be unable to call upon Mosquera for up to five months after sustaining a hamstring injury.

Mosquera suffered the 'high grade' problem during the Carabao Cup third round encounter with Tottenham Hotspur and was forced to undergo surgery as his recovery period got underway.

The injury came as a huge blow to Mosquera as he saw his Wolves debut cut short due to having to be substituted just nine minutes into the tie.

Mosquera became Bruno Lage's first signing following his appointment as Nuno Espirito Santo's successor in June, with the 20-year-old making the move from Colombian outfit Atletico Nacional.

While Lage was involved in welcoming Mosquera to Molineux, Wolves technical director Scott Sellars suggested the central defender had been on the club's radar prior to the head coach's arrival.

What has Luke Hatfield said about Mosquera?

Hatfield insists Wolves believe Mosquera has a bright future ahead of him.

Although the Colombian has seen the early stages of his Molineux career hampered by the serious injury, Hatfield believes the lay-off will not have altered Lage or the hierarchy's feelings over his capabilities following the summer move.

The journalist claims Mosquera's young age will have eased any fears over his future in the Premier League.

But he also confirms the centre-half's time on the treatment table will have come as a kick in the teeth.

Hatfield told GIVEMESPORT: "Losing Mosquera is a big blow. He was obviously a signing they had big hopes for and still do because he's only a young player."

In which season did Wolves wear this kit?

How has Mosquera's injury left Wolves defensively?

Mosquera failed to make a single Premier League appearance prior to sustaining his injury, with him only being named in the matchday squad twice, so the lay-off will not have had an impact on Lage's immediate team selection plans.

However, reports last month suggested Lage is weighing up whether to welcome a free agent to the club following the blow.

Ex-Manchester City central defender Eliaquim Mangala and Mateo Mussachio are without a club and have been suggested as possible targets.

Club captain Conor Coady, Max Kilman, Romain Saiss and Willy Boly are Lage's only centre-half options while Mosquera is on the sidelines and there are no incomings.
