Liverpool news: Mo Salah's KDB demand could stop Jurgen Klopp from signing Kylian Mbappe

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah scores against Atletico Madrid

Mohamed Salah's wage demands could halt Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp's attempts to sign Kylian Mbappe, according to journalist Emmet Gates.

Mbappe has entered the final 12 months of his Paris Saint-Germain contract, heightening interest in the 22-year-old.

What's the latest news involving Mbappe?

Mbappe, who is valued at £144million by Transfermarkt, is unlikely to sign a new deal with his current employers after telling French media outlet RMC that he decided in the summer that he wants to move elsewhere.

Doubts over Mbappe's future led to Real Madrid testing PSG's resolve during the summer transfer window, but the Spanish giants saw multiple bids rejected.

Despite being frustrated ahead of the deadline, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is refusing to give up on signing Mbappe and told Spanish newspaper El Debate, via Sky Sports, that a deal could be agreed when the transfer market reopens in January.

However, Real Madrid are set to face competition for the France international's services as Liverpool, along with Manchester City, are keen.

What has Gates said about the situation?

Gates believes the financial implications will result in it being difficult for Klopp to persuade Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group, to sign Mbappe.

He feels the importance of keeping Salah at the club means the Egyptian's future will be the Anfield club's priority.

Gates told GIVEMESPORT: "The thing is Salah is already in the top three of Liverpool's highest earners.

"Obviously, given that Liverpool will likely want to keep him, it's been reported that Salah is looking for Kevin De Bruyne money or anywhere in between £300,000 and £380,000-per-week, which is near to what Mbappe is earning now.

"There's no way that FSG is going to sanction a Salah extension plus buy Mbappe because Mbappe would arguably want more than the £400,000-per-week salary he's currently earning at PSG.

"Even if there's no transfer fee, that is still an exorbitant amount of money, so there's no way that Liverpool will keep Salah and sign Mbappe. It would either have to be keep Salah or sell him and sign Mbappe."

What's the latest news on Salah's contract situation?

Salah has less than two years remaining on his £200,000-per-week Anfield contract.

It has led to Liverpool entering talks with the Egypt international, but it has been claimed that Salah is hoping to double his current pay package.

According to Spanish media outlet AS, uncertainty over Salah's future has put PSG on red alert and the Ligue One side could look to negotiate a switch next summer.
